Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom Agile Businesses Are Successful Businesses

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom Agile Businesses Are Successful Businesses Everyone has heard the fable about the tortoise and the hare. Conventional wisdom says that slow and steady wins the race. A strategy may not be perfect, but if one executes it patiently and consistently, it may outperform better initiatives that don’t get the benefit of time. However, in today’s rapidly changing business world, an agile business is a successful business. So how do you reconcile these two truths? How do you know when the best thing for the project is to change the plan, and how can you execute and communicate changes without destroying team motivation and momentum? Business Agility Insight #1: Create and Challenge Assumptions Any major strategic initiative should involve the upfront establishment of goals, milestones, and success metrics. But, as Tim Berry pointed out in his article for the Small Business Administration website, assumptions should also be considered in your initial planning. “Tracking your results, you want to be able to compare them to what you had planned or expected to see,” he said. “Get your team members together once a month to review your plan and its results. “Take a hard look at your underlying assumptions and assess whether or not they’ve changed. If they have, there’s no virtue whatsoever in sticking to the plan you built on top of them.” Berry suggested you look at the difference between what you planned and what actually happened. Some results will be better than planned, and some will be worse. “For each key difference you discover, and all of them combined, use your best judgment to determine whether the differences were caused by false expectations or unexpected good or bad execution.” “Also, consider external and internal factors that may have influenced the results. Maybe your expectations were too conservative, or too optimistic. In that case, you revise your plan,” he said. Common sense, remarked Berry, is critical. Although the project may be close to your heart, you want to remain pragmatic: for example, asking yourself if you were you wrong about the whole thing, or just about the timing? You also want to consider if something else has occurred in the market to change your assumptions. In any case, said Berry, maybe you discover that you and your team have executed better than expected, or results were better than expected. “Hooray. Stick to the plan. It’s working,” he advised. “And maybe you discover that your execution was wrong, poor, or flawed. If that’s the case, change the plan.” For more business agility insights, check out the QuickBase Fast Track blog.

Protect your skin from sunlight One of the most critical ways to take care of your lovely skin is to safeguard it against sunlight exposure. People often forget this crucial step. A lifetime of sunlight exposure may cause age spots, wrinkles, skin cancer, and other skin problems. For the most complete sunlight protection, purchase a broad-spectrum skin care mask from a reputable brand. For instance, applying Day Cream Complex from the premier Dead Sea would protect your skin by blocking harmful UVB and UVB from ever damaging the skin. Apply the cream generously and reapply in every 2 hours or more often if you are perspiring or swimming. Check your diet Take care of what you usually put on your plate and review your eating habits. Make sure you take vitamins, sufficient protein, greens, and fresh fruits. A diet low in sugar and fats and rich in vitamin C promotes radiant skin. A low sugar diet keeps insulin levels down. This allows your body cells to maintain a very healthy balance according to Dead Sea Premier tips on Haaretz. Exfoliate your skin You need to keep in mind that exfoliation is indispensable. Ensure that you exfoliate your skin at least twice or once per week. Exfoliation is critical in removing the layers of the dead skin and oil leaves you with brighter skin and a healthier glow. Cosmetics are good as dirt if you leave them to cake your face. You can use the para pharmaceutical facial exfoliating gel from Premier Dead Sea from our store as a treatment, and to exfoliate your skin. Control your stress levels Uncontrolled stress may make your lovely skin more sensitive, trigger acne breakouts due to hormones and oil, enhance eye bags, plus other skin problems. If you feel bad, this will reflect outwardly. To enhance the health of your skin, take steps to manage your stress levels. Set reasonable limits and leave some time to do the things you like and enjoy. The outcomes might be more surprising than you ever expected. The price of stress is also a negative effect on your body so get right to it! Hydrate your skin Drink a lot of water on a daily basis, at least eight glasses or more per day. Eat vegetables or fruits that have a higher level of water content such as cantaloupe, grapefruit, strawberry, orange, cucumber, and watermelon. Feed your skin cosmetics rich in minerals as well. Purchase serums that compensate for the nutrition your skin needs or find out more from the Premier Dead Sea Europe site. You can also apply moisturizing creams and masks to hydrate and make your skin feel smooth and soft. Sweat it out through regular workouts Doing exercises on a regular basis such as yoga, jogging, and running will provide your body with the perfect blood circulation. There is underlying beauty when you’re a beast in your workouts! Sweating also accelerates the cleansing experience of your body including the skin. That’s why you see a glow on your face after doing exercises. Emphasize that glow by replenishing your inner moisture with mineral rich skincare products. You will not only feel great, you will look great! Wash your face regularly Wash your skin with warm water preferably three times per day, and massage your face gently in circular motions. Ensure that you use a top â€"notch cleanser that contains botanical ingredients and essentials that brighten the skin. A good example of such an item is SUPREME Perfecting Peeling Gel. This gel penetrates deep into your skin to extract excess sebum, dead skin cells, and other impurities leaving your skin smooth and clean. Each treatment is like a mini-facial experience with surprising results. Healthy skin habits You should always avoid leaning your skin on objects or touching it with your fingers that collect skin residue and oil. Touching your skin can spread the bacteria that make pores become inflamed and irritated. Take note that different approaches should be taken to the skin around the eyes, facial skin, and your body skin. To ensure that you keep bacteria at bay, clean your hands before applying anything to your skin. People should remember that their skincare isn’t just in the items they buy as customers it’s in their little habits!

Show Me the Money

Show Me the Money Its a situation we have all faced at one time or another. You have the candidate in for the second interview, and they are, as far as you can see, ideal. The perfect experience, a personality that is a great fit for the team and they are excited about your organization. And then you mention money. They ask you to repeat the offer when you reveal it, and things go downhill fast. In the worst cases, they tell you they are angry that you have been wasting their time. You might say something about the range of opportunity you are offering, and hint that they need to stay professional, and they come back with the suggestion that you should try it too. The fact is, getting the salary offer wrong is a disaster in any recruitment situation. It wastes your time as well as that of candidates, and that is only the beginning. If you are not offering the going rate for the job, you look as though you dont know the market, your organization looks cheap, and your candidate may even share his or her irritation by social media. There is reputational damage for you and the organization you are recruiting for, wasted time for all, and not only do you still have a role to fill, finding another candidate will be even harder if word gets around. Knowing what to pay your existing staff to retain them can be a problem knowing how much to offer to attract the new staff you need can be a nightmare. Why is it so hard to find salary information? Even as a recruitment professional, it can be hard to get hold of accurate salary figures. People generally don’t talk about what they earn. It may be old-fashioned British reticence but, these days, it can be a negotiating tactic. Plus of course, during any negotiation, there are those candidates who may be economical with the truth, or inadvertently add their bonus to their salary figure in the heat of the interview process. There are online surveys, but many of these have the quality of data you might expect when there is absolutely no reason for respondents to tell the unvarnished truth. You might find that the figures have been painstakingly compiled and cross-referenced for accuracy, but not that the data they are based on is five years out of date or includes respondents from across the entire EU (or even the US). So even though we can all get a representative figure in a few minutes with the help of Google, we probably can’t afford to be confident in it. Things are made more difficult still because although many websites can provide lists, in the real world, salaries do not stay still. That salary figure you found might have been accurate when it was published, but we have all noticed that wage inflation is back in recent months. This means that any salary figure from a year ago is out of date now. Unlike consumer inflation, you can’t just add on a standard percentage. Some roles are more in demand than they were a year ago and will command a premium. Some job titles might not even have existed in the past. You need to know what the going rate for a particular role is now. Fortunately, the answer or answers can now be found, with a new type of online guide. A salary guide based on official figures A team of data experts looked at a number of sources for the most accurate data, and finally found it in the figures used by the ONS, the Office of National Statistics, accepted as the authority on matters of tax and employment. “It’s the definitive data as used by the treasury. It is what people actually earn, rather than what they might say they do.” But, as well as today’s figures, Rangewell has created a tool which also allows you to look back on how salaries have changed over the last 7 years. The business finance experts at Rangewell, which created it say: The recruiters we work with believe that is a very important plus. Being able to see which sectors, and which specialisms are seeing the fastest growth helps them plan ahead. If you can see it is a specialism like robotics for example which is growing in importance fast, you will be able to tailor any salary offer you make accordingly. It’s a vital and unique source of information all you need is the job title you are interested in and it will give you the figures you want in a moment. “We always build a close relationship with the people we have as clients,” a Rangewell spokesperson explains. “That has given us have some unique insights about the challenges our clients face. The need to have an accurate source of salary data is a need that has come up again and again.” About the author: Richard Mitchell made a qualification in psychology the basis of his career. He provided support for what was then the personnel function of a number of advertising agencies in the 1990s, dealing mainly with creative recruitment. Since the millennium, he has done the same for HR teams in banks and financial organizations. This included work with a leading bank during the financial crisis of 2007-2008, which he describes as ‘professionally challenging.’ These days he writes about HR topics, along with a number of other specialized areas, mainly for companies in the financial sector.

Are you at risk of being a Boomer Four things you need to know.

Are you at risk of being a Boomer Four things you need to know. Generation Z has identified the people obstructing their way, and Gen Z calls that group Boomers. Regardless of age. A Boomer is anyone not taking action to support Gen Zs agenda. I love that. I said to my older son, Im so proud to be part of Gen X. He said, You shouldnt be. Your generation did nothing to stop a global disaster. Rule 1: Dump self-actualization in favor of selflessness. I dont tell him we grew up listening to Give a hoot, dont pollute. I dont tell him we took car trips with no seatbelts and rolled down the window to throw out the trash. Instead, I tell him Gen X will be remembered for parenting the generation that saved the planet. Gen X are the most caring devoted parents in history. We had all the opportunities the baby boomers had, and instead of indulging in those opportunities, we took care of kids. But I do use our US History time to talk about how the people who got rich during the Gilded Age left nothing for the next generation. But that generation raised the kids who saved the US from the Great Depression. Similarly, baby boomers left nothing for the next generation. But that generation raised the generation that will save the planet. Rule 2: Dont use words when pictures will suffice. I made a chart for us to talk about at lunchtime. Please try to ignore that someone viciously threw this chart into the garbage when he cleared his plate. I show him the pattern. If one group has all the resources, the next group has to make something to call their own. The Rockefellers and Carnegies collected all the money. So the Lost Generation had to suffer through WWI and then wrote depressive novels. But the generation that came next redistributed wealth and rights during the 50s and 60s. And the same thing will happen now. Generation X had to build the Internet so wed have jobsâ€"it was like our version of the depressive novel. Generation Z will embark on a great distribution we just need to wait until they all get out of college. I draw pictures fast before my kids google a detail to show me I got it wrong. One son says, Whats on that kids head? The other says, Hes wearing his house on his head because anything not attached to your body the Boomers will take for themselves. The boys spend the rest of the day walking around with insane things on their head. Even after underwear, a chair, and three bunches of grapes, they are still laughing. Rule 3: Find a cause and really care. No co-opting and no dabbling.   Heres what will happen as Gen Z forces politicians to focus on climate. Baby boomers will announce that if its a movement, then they are leading. Millennials will photoshop themselves looking perfect as they travel to climate events at bucket-list locations. Gen X will have an alternative agenda. My agenda will be public schools. Kids dont need school to learn, and school doesnt create social mobility, so we should redirect the education budget to social services for poor families. Do not doubt my conclusion. Mark Zuckerberg just dumped $100 million into the Newark Public schools and confirmed that more money for schools doesnt help kids in poverty. On top of that, MIT found that making a dent on poverty requires giving families a job, healthcare, and a savings account. Another group at MIT confirmed decades of research that says kids will learn to read on their own if they dont live in poverty. So public schools spend billions of dollars teaching kids to read so they get out of poverty when the kids could learn on their own if we gave their parents basic necessities and a savings account. Read that last sentence again. Really. Rule 4: Push reform like you dont care who loses.     Gen X could build the Internet because we had so little stake in the status quo. As soon as you start advocating for gradual reform, youre trying to hold on to what you have, and then youre part of the problem. Which is why we need to  get rid of public school and redistribute that money to the poor. You might say, What about this kid or that kid whose family will never get out of poverty in this new plan? But that kid was never going to benefit from school anyway. And if teachers are capable of showing kids how to succeed outside of school, then surely the teachers are capable of succeeding outside of school themselves; they can all get new jobs. School should be canceled. I tell my son maybe he should focus on education instead of climate. He says, You cant go to school if your house is underwater. I say, You cant address climate without addressing inequality. He says, OK, Boomer.

6 Ways to Being More Memorable When Networking

6 Ways to Being More Memorable When Networking A lot of people might assume that being memorable is simply a matter of showing up somewhere and talking to someone. What does it mean to be memorable? What are the components of being memorable? Want to know how to put it all together, in 6 steps? I spoke to Soulaima Gourani, public speaker, corporate advisor, and TED Talks mentor, about ways to stand out the next time you are networking. The recipe for becoming memorable is relatively straightforward. Many of us can increase our rate of memorability by training our ”likeability.” When you meet someone for the first time, it is essential that you spend the first couple of minutes wisely. Soulaima’s tips to being memorable 1. Be genuine. When you meet someone for the first time, focus on earning their trust by starting a genuine conversation. Be concerned about them as an individual, not just as a business interest. If you can create trusting relationships with people you encounter you can build their trust and become more memorable. 2. Body language is critical! If you hide your face/look down/away, your introduction will become a waste of time. It is okay to be shy and introverted but be proud of who you are and OWN it with pride, confidence, and dignity. 3. Find out how you can help each other. Everybody has a special competence from which other people can benefitâ€"you just need to identify it and communicate it so that people can remember you. Describe your unique talents and skills in a way that brings value so they can quickly get an idea about who you are, what you can do, and your professional goals. People remember you better if you replace “My title is …” with something like “I help people with …” And always ask, How can I help YOU in the future? 4. Relatability. Can people relate to you? Find something where you have a similar interest or connection, whether it’s a restaurant, music, travel destination, or a TV show. 5. Your open-mindedness. Never be judgemental, keep an open mind, even if you don’t agree with the other person’s opinion or view. You don’t have to agree with everything, but show the other person that you are open to listening. 6. Be a Good Conversation Starter. When you meet someone for the first time, start a genuine conversation with them and focus on earning their trust. No one remembers those who play it safe with “small talk.” Bonus Tip: Use the 70/30 rule The 70/30 rule simply means that 70 percent of the time you should talk about professional matters such as a project, a problem, a sale, etc. The remaining 30 percent, you should talk about something that is personal, but not too privateâ€"something that you are pondering, considering, something that interests you, bothers you, worries you, or pleases you. Give something of yourself so that you become informal and personal. And pay attention to the short personal stories that people share with you. If you remain too professional, formal, and distant, you may miss out on a valuable opportunity to establish the kind of trust that is the foundation of a fruitful professional relationship. Dana’s Bonus Tip: Always follow up Within 24 hours, connect on LinkedIn with those you meet and request a follow-up meeting to begin building a long-term, 2-way relationship. Being memorable is essential for every ambitious person, after all, people don’t know you exist if they can’t remember you. How to Use Admission Resume Writing to Get Into Colleges

How to Use Admission Resume Writing to Get Into CollegesAdmission resume writing is the kind of document which proves your academic qualifications and the sort of career that you are aiming to pursue. The kind of admission resume writing process which is being followed by some students today is different from the one followed by others in the past, and this fact has greatly contributed to the emergence of an excellent degree transfer application to students and others alike. When a candidate applies for a college and university, he or she is asked to put forward certain characteristics that he or she possesses in order to attract the attention of the prospective faculty members. These may include grades, experience, performance, or any other such characteristics which students are conscious of possessing. For this reason, this kind of admission resume writing helps students to ensure that they have put forward such qualities which will enable them to make a good impression on the facu lty members in question. The process of admissions in most institutions has become increasingly popular and it has become easy for anyone who wants to apply for a college or university to do so with a simple admission resume. In the United States, however, the process of admissions into certain colleges and universities has become a controversial topic and students are not completely comfortable with the process, nor are they comfortable with the results. Students are very much aware of the fact that there are many who feel that the admission process is unfair to them and are eager to find a way in which the same can be done to their benefit. The current way in which students use admission resume writing has started from within colleges and universities themselves. It is this change in the thinking and perception of the students which has led to the utilization of admission resume writing to enable students to enter schools in a better manner. Today, students are using their own admis sion resume to write for jobs and to earn diplomas, and this is a much easier process compared to the one which was used in the past.Today, students are not just depending on what they have learned in the past, but they are actually changing the course of their lives to reach the level they would like to be at. This is why students are no longer going back to the past and putting their minds into the decision making process. They are now reaching out to the educational authorities and seeking their help and guidance in order to get the right entry in different schools. The first thing that a student has to remember when he or she is going to use admission resume writing is that it must be focused and targeted. He or she should not dwell on something that may not have been necessary to get him or her into a particular college or university, but rather should try to focus on what is needed in order to get him or her there. The next thing that he or she should remember is that the admiss ion resume which he or she is going to use should only consist of the basic information that needs to be recorded about his or her academic history. The school and institute should not be concerned about any further details, but rather just the basics that need to be mentioned. While writing your admission resume, the best thing to do is to write down the relevant details as soon as possible. The day the deadline of college admissions comes, it is time to make use of the Internet to help you find the necessary colleges and universities. There are many sites on the Internet that provide you with a list of schools and educational institutions in the areas where you live. Even if you are not able to find a school in your neighborhood, there are other sites that offer assistance to students, and help them find the institution that is nearest to them.
